Coinbase review
The beginner-friendly US crypto account — NASDAQ-listed and FDIC-insured fiat
Best for US beginners and mainstream investors who want a regulated, trusted crypto account — NASDAQ-listed, FDIC-insured USD wallet, and Coinbase Card give tangible banking utility.
- Most trusted crypto brand in the US — 110M+ verified users

- Publicly traded (NASDAQ) — highest regulatory transparency
- Best user experience for beginners in the industry
- Very high retail trading fees (up to 3.99% on simple trades)
- No crypto-backed loans available
- No IBAN or SEPA (US-focused product)
- Poor Trustpilot score (1.6/5) — account freeze complaints
Eight axes, weighted.
How we tested Coinbase.
Coinbase remains the default US-retail choice — onboarding is the fastest of any platform I tested, UI is the most polished, and the regulatory footprint (public company, NY BitLicense, 40+ state MTLs) is the strongest. Trade-off: Advanced Trade fees are higher than Kraken Pro or Binance; the simple buy/sell widget costs 1-2% more than Advanced. Vault + hardware 2FA are under-used security upgrades worth enabling.
