Best crypto banks for Spain

Spain is the fourth-largest EU economy and one of the most active crypto markets in the bloc — supported by Bizum (the bank-collective instant-payment app, ~30M users), pragmatic CNMV oversight, and a tax framework that treats crypto disposals on-cycle. CNMV (the securities regulator) and Banco de España jointly oversee crypto-asset service providers; MiCA CASP authorisation has now replaced the legacy Banco-de-España VASP register as the canonical framework. Major MiCA-passported platforms (Bitvavo, Coinbase, Crypto.com, Kraken EU, Binance Spain) all serve Spanish residents; Bit2Me is the largest domestic crypto-banking platform (CNMV-supervised, 7M+ users).

§ 01 REGULATORY OVERVIEW

Crypto-banking regulation in Spain

Crypto-asset service providers serving Spanish residents must hold MiCA CASP authorisation under the EU framework. Banco de España maintained the legacy national VASP register through to 30 December 2024; new entrants now go through MiCA CASP authorisation issued by CNMV or via passporting. Stablecoin issuance is supervised under MiCA Title III + III-bis. Crypto disposals are taxed under the Spanish savings-income regime: 19% on gains up to €6,000, 21% from €6,000 to €50,000, 23% from €50,000 to €200,000, 27% above €200,000, with a top bracket of 28% above €300,000 (Modelo 100 + dedicated Modelo 721 for foreign-held crypto over €50k).

§ 03 SPAIN FAQ

Crypto banking in Spain — FAQ

Which crypto bank is best for Spanish residents? +
Revolut (Bank of Lithuania licence + EU passporting) leads on banking integration. For trading, Bit2Me (CNMV-supervised, the largest Spanish crypto platform), Bitvavo (AFM Dutch MiCA), Coinbase Spain (CySEC MiCA), Crypto.com Spain (MiCA CASP), and Binance Spain (Banco de España legacy + MiCA-pending) are the major options. Pick by use case from the ranked list.
How does Spanish crypto tax work? +
Crypto disposals are taxed under the savings-income (rentas del ahorro) regime: 19% on gains up to €6,000, 21% from €6,000-€50,000, 23% from €50,000-€200,000, 27% from €200,000-€300,000, 28% above €300,000. Reportable via Modelo 100 (general tax return). Holdings of crypto in foreign platforms exceeding €50,000 require Modelo 721 (similar to Modelo 720 for foreign assets). Track all transactions via per-platform CSV plus tax-tooling (CoinTracking ES, Blockpit ES).
What is Bizum and does it work for crypto? +
Bizum is the Spanish bank-collective instant-payment app (~30M users; jointly operated by Banco Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank and 30+ other Spanish banks). It moves EUR between phone numbers in seconds at zero fee for individuals. Most CNMV-supervised crypto exchanges accept Bizum as a fiat on-ramp; Bit2Me has the deepest integration. SEPA Instant remains available across all EU-passported platforms.
Is the FATF Travel Rule enforced in Spain? +
Yes. The EU Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR) implements the FATF Travel Rule with no de minimis threshold for VASP-to-VASP transfers as of 30 December 2024. Affects withdrawals from MiCA-licensed exchanges to external wallets — counterparty information is required. Self-custody withdrawals may require ownership proof (signed message, photograph).
What about Banco de España's legacy VASP register? +
The Banco de España VASP register operated under Royal Decree-Law 7/2021 and was the pre-MiCA framework — operators serving Spanish residents had to register before being able to operate. MiCA CASP authorisation has now replaced the BdE register as the primary licensing framework; existing BdE-registered operators are transitioning to MiCA. New entrants apply directly for MiCA CASP.
